He looked toward the student and confidently replied, ?OK.? That?s certainly his plan.
This was an official government event, the last stop on a three-day, five-state tour for Mr. Obama to promote the ideas he spelled out in his State of the Union speech Tuesday night. The Madison Central Cheerleaders will be going to Orlando, Fla., Feb. 8-13, for a national competition after all.
The school cheerleaders have twice won national championships at Orlando in the past.
After nearly an hour of discussion and listening to often emotional pleas from parents, the Madison County School Board voted 3-1 Thursday evening to approve the trip.
The entire cheerleading team, including two members who were seriously injured in an automobile accident last year, attended.
The meeting had been scheduled primarily for a mid-year review of the school districts current budget and a first draft of its 2012-13 budget.

Q If Im holding airline tickets for an upcoming Costa trip — the Concordia, which collided with rocks and ran aground Jan. 13, was scheduled to sail again from Rome (Civitavecchia) — will the company give me back my money?
A It should, but whether it will remains unclear.
The issue for passengers on upcoming cruises is this: If they bought an air-sea package — that is, their cruise fare and airfare together — from Costa, they might have some recourse. But if they booked their airfare separately and now must cancel those plane tickets, they may not get their money back (may not being key words because we dont yet know what Costa will do) because most...
SAN DIEGO Hunter Mahan is playing five straight tournaments to start the season, a West Coast swing that includes a 17,000-mile detour to the Middle East.
Mahan is playing the Qatar Masters next week, situated right between Torrey Pines and Pebble Beach on the golf calendar. It will be his first tournament overseas during the PGA Tour season since he was a rookie and played in France.
He said he was offered the invitation over the holidays and had two days to reply. It was a tough decision for Mahan, who is playing every week through the Match Play Championship in Arizona. Not only does he face a round-trip flight halfway around the world to a course he has never seen, Qatar...

Rep. Peter King, R-NY, who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, had first called for an investigation in August into any cooperation between federal agencies and producers of the movie, Politico reported.
In a letter released Thursday by Kings committee, the Defense Department said Pentagon officials decided to launch an investigation immediately after an initial review by the Office of the Deputy Inspector General for Intelligence and Special Program Assessments.

Washingtons political gridlock has had at least one advantage: It allowed businesses and interest groups to reduce their lobbying expenses last year, the first time thats happened in more than a decade.
Overall, the amount spent on lobbying was nearly $3.3 billion last year, down from $3.5 billion the year before, according to a preliminary analysis of disclosure forms by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
It marked the first time since 1999 that spending on lobbying, year-over-year, dropped in Washington.
Lobbying hit a high-water mark in 2010 as Congress finished work on two massive bills overhauling healthcare and financial regulations.
